Leighton Denny: Secrets of the Souk Collection

Leighton denny secrets of the souk collection review furious filer

The beauty of the Secrets of the Souk collection is that it serves a number of purposes. As the name suggests, it is perfect for those exotic designs and intricate patterns that scream summer. It also seems like everyone is bound to find something they like, whether you're into bold or muted shades. On the other hand, the brand suggests that the collection consists of perfect shades for the colour blocking trend that is meant to be huge this spring/summer season. But is it all talk and no action? I have investigated...

Nothing But Sand*

I'm really not into yellow/orange polish in general so I was surprised how much I loved this shade. The formula was very good and I loved the hint of mustard in it. It gives a nice warmth to the colour. This is 2 coats, swatched here with a top coat.

Mosaic Chic*

This is a pretty cornflower blue. It had a very nice formula and coverage. Here I'm wearing 2 coats and a layer of top coat.

Saffron Hearts*

Saffron Hearts* has a nice creamy formula and a perfect name to describe its colour. It's that warm, orange-y red. Here I'm wearing 2 coats and a layer of top coat. One thing that I have to point out however, is that according to Leighton Denny's website, this is a matte polish. So once I swatched this shade, I actually googled the definition of matte as I was starting to question whether I can speak English. Maybe they meant...no, scratch that, I don't know what they meant, because this polish most definitely dries glossy (without the top coat, duh).

Golden Sands*

Golden Sands* is a pretty, sheer pink. This polish has a lot of orange/gold shimmer in it and although it is buildable, I'm not sure you can make it completely opaque. Here I'm wearing 3 coats and a top coat. I've seen this shade used as a topper all over my social media and I'm kicking myself that I didn't think of that! Check out how amazing it looks over the red from this collection on my friend's blog, The Polish List. Come back though, because I have yet to show you my favourite shade;)

Hidden City*

Nudes are really hard to match to your skin tone, and this one unfortunately isn't my colour. I found the application to be a bit streaky and although the polish was opaque in 2 coats, I needed a top coat to smooth it out.

Oasis Of Mint*

I don't think I have ever said it about a green polish but this is absolutely gorgeous! I am totally obsessed. When I die, I want to wear it as a ghost. Ok, that's enough now. Let's skip to the important part, shall we? The formula was really good and there was a very delicate shimmer running through it. It's not particularly visible on the nail but it adds a bit of depth to the polish. In the picture I am wearing 2 coats and a top coat.

Secrets of the Souk Collection is available directly from Leighton Denny's website at £12 per bottle or as a complete collection plus a manicure case for £65.

As  mentioned before, this collection was inspired by colour blocking trend that is coming our way this spring/summer season and I think all the shades serve that purpose perfectly. If you're stuck for inspiration though, check out my recent colour block design.

See you soon xx

  1. As soon as I saw you also reviewed this collection I had to stop what I was doing and come and have a look. As always you don't disappoint and I seriously need to learn your photographing skills!! All your images are faultless and your nails are impeccable. I love Oasis of Mint, although would totally need to rock a bright neon pink if I was a ghost :)

Thank you also for the link to my post, I had no idea that Saffron Hearts was suppose to be matte - oops!

    1. You're welcome:) I love your red design. Haha, needless to say, I'm a little confused by the whole matte thing!
